Spain prepares for TDT transition to 4K and new channel launches

Spain is preparing for a significant transition in its Digital Terrestrial Television (TDT) landscape. On November 5, the country will undergo a technical shift driven by the adoption of the DVB-T2 standard and the introduction of 4K UHD broadcasting. Major media groups, including RTVE, Mediaset, and Atresmedia, have confirmed they will offer UHD transmissions.

To access these new high-definition services, viewers require televisions that are 4K compatible, feature a DVB-T2 tuner, and possess an HEVC decoding chip. Most models manufactured since 2017 are expected to meet these requirements, though users may need to resynchronize their channels to access the new signals.

Simultaneously, the competitive landscape of Spanish television is shifting with the emergence of La Séptima. This new TDT channel is recruiting established professionals to build its roster. Among the recent high-profile additions is journalist Verónica Sanz, who joins the project from Atresmedia. The new channel aims to combine veteran experience with new talent to provide news, analysis, and entertainment.
