Spain prepares launch of new TV channel Siete amid industry opposition

José Miguel Contreras, the founder of the proposed Siete TV channel, says the project will debut on Spain's digital terrestrial television after the summer. The channel is planned to have an editorial line close to the current government and will feature journalists aligned with the PSOE.

The initiative, backed by financing from Televisa, has received approval from the Moncloa but has faced financial, technological and corporate objections, notably from Grupo Prisa and its president Joseph Oughourlian. Contreras, who co‑founded La Sexta 20 years ago, described the effort as a major professional challenge and emphasized that the channel’s programming schedule and presenters are already being assembled. He did not confirm rumors about hiring morning‑show host Ángels Barceló.
