Spain prohibits truck drivers from loading and unloading cargo

In Spain, professional drivers of goods‑transport vehicles with a maximum authorised mass above 7.5 tonnes are generally prohibited from performing loading or unloading tasks. The rule also covers handling of containers, pallets and similar items. It is intended to protect drivers’ safety and working conditions by preventing additional physical labour that could increase injury risk, disrupt work hours or affect logistics efficiency.

The prohibition does not apply in all cases. Exceptions are allowed for specific services such as household moves, tank‑carrier transport, and the movement of aggregates, where the nature of the operation may justify driver involvement. Any deviation from the general rule must be documented in a written agreement prior to the vehicle’s arrival at the loading point and may require a separate economic supplement.
