Spain provides over €3 million in emergency aid to drought‑hit Soria farmers and guarantees PAC support after fires

Agroseguro has begun paying emergency indemnities to farmers in Soria after severe drought and hail damaged more than 40,000 hectares of winter cereals. The first disbursement amounted to €1.95 million, with a further €1.06 million scheduled for payment this week, bringing total aid for the province to over €3 million. The payments are part of a €14.4 million tranche released to cereal growers in 39 Spanish provinces, which together total €40.6 million in compensation for weather‑related losses.

In Castilla‑La Mancha, agriculture minister Julián Martínez Lizán announced that direct payments and other components of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (PAC) will continue for producers whose lands were burned in recent forest fires. He stressed that PAC aid is calculated on historic land rights, not on current harvest outcomes, ensuring that affected farmers receive the full amount of basic, green, and other scheme payments.

Both measures aim to prevent the natural disasters from turning into a financial crisis for Spain’s agricultural sector.
