Spain railway accident: Feijóo demands independent network review
Following a major train accident in Toledo that has resulted in dozens of fatalities, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the People's Party (PP), has called for a complete and independent review of the entire Spanish railway network. Feijóo emphasized that the public has a right to accountability regarding infrastructure investments, safety systems, and the implementation of previous warnings.
Feijóo stated that an immediate government investigation and a subsequent judicial investigation must be conducted without interference. In response to the tragedy, the PP has suspended all pre-campaign activities.
While the PP has refrained from immediate political blame, Vox leader Santiago Abascal has criticized the government, asserting that the current administration's policies are linked to the tragedy. The accident has caused significant distress for families of the missing and deceased, with searches continuing for passengers involved in the crash.
