Spain wildfires burn over 296,000 hectares this year

Spain has recorded 296,502 hectares burned by wildfires so far this year, according to data from the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS). This figure is approximately 3.5 times higher than the annual average recorded since 2006. However, the total burned area is roughly 22.5 percent lower than the same period in 2025.

In recent incidents, a forest fire in Benahavís, Málaga, burned 329 hectares of pine forest and scrubland, resulting in two injuries and causing the preventive evacuation of the Montemayor Alto urbanization. Meanwhile, the fire in Moguer, Huelva, has been stabilized by the Infoca Plan.

In Portugal, more than 500 emergency responders are battling a forest fire in the Alvito da Beira area, located in the Proença-a-Nova municipality near the Spanish border.
