Spain business creation hits 19-year June high

Spain recorded its highest number of new business creations for the month of June in 19 years. According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), 11,153 new mercantile societies were formed in June, representing a 1.7% increase compared to the same month in 2025. This growth marks a return to positive territory following two consecutive months of declines.

Despite the increase in the number of companies, the subscribed capital for these new entities fell by 22.2% year-on-year to 344 million euros, with the average subscribed capital decreasing by 23.5% to 30,847 euros. The real estate, financial, and insurance sectors led new creations, accounting for 19.6% of the total, followed by construction at 15.9%.

In Catalonia, business creation also reached a historical June record with 2,142 new companies, a 9.8% year-on-year increase. However, the region saw a 20.2% rise in business dissolutions. Nationally, business mortality increased by 14.6%, with 1,814 companies dissolved in June, most of which were voluntary liquidations.

On a positive note, capital expansions saw significant growth. The number of companies increasing their capital rose by 16.6% to 2,639, while the total subscribed capital for these expansions surged by 65.4% to over 1.98 billion euros.
