Wildfires that started separately in the Madrid, Ávila and Toledo regions have merged into a single front, creating a perimeter of roughly 280 kilometres. The blaze has consumed more than 77,000 hectares, making it the largest forest fire recorded in recent Spanish history.

Authorities have ordered the evacuation or confinement of tens of thousands of residents; official estimates note over 115,000 people have been displaced. The cost of fighting the fires exceeds €450 million, covering aerial and ground operations, as well as insurance payouts for agricultural and property losses. Ecology Minister Sara Aagesen described the incident as the biggest wildfire near Madrid in recent years.

Firefighting units from the Community of Madrid, the national Emergency Military Unit, the Guardia Civil and volunteers have been reinforced by 16 members of the Servicio de Prevención, Extinción de Incendios y Salvamento (Speis) from the Basque Country and 15 specialists from Basalan. Aitor Omar, head of the Basque Forest Service, warned that full extinguishment could take weeks because of the enormous burnt area.
