In July 2026 Spain’s registered unemployment increased by 19,517 people, bringing the total to 2,311,499 – the lowest July figure since 2007 and the sharpest rise for the month since 2008. At the same time, Social Security affiliation reached a historic high of 22,508,065 active workers.

The extraordinary regularisation of foreign nationals added 262,475 foreign affiliates in three months, accounting for more than 60 % of all foreign‑created jobs in the past year and contributing 15,535 new jobseekers to the unemployment register. The services sector led the monthly increase with 8,221 new unemployed, followed by construction (+2,433), industry (+473) and agriculture (+122).

Regionally, Murcia set a new record with 706,498 affiliates, while Andalusia saw a loss of 6,948 affiliates, leaving 3,598,976 contributors. Other autonomous communities reported mixed trends, but the national labour market remained characterised by a record level of employment alongside a modest uptick in unemployment.
