Spain's labour market showed a mixed picture in July 2026. Registered unemployment increased by 19,517 people, bringing the total to 2,311,499 – the lowest July figure since 2007 but the largest monthly rise since July 2008. At the same time, social‑security affiliation reached a historic high of about 22.5 million contributors, the highest level ever recorded.

Regionally, the Murcia autonomous community set a new record with 706,498 affiliates, while Andalusia saw a monthly loss of 6,948 affiliates, leaving it with 3,598,976 contributors. In Soria province, unemployment rose by 153 people (a 6.27 % jump), the biggest provincial increase in Spain. The regularisation of immigrants added 262,475 foreign affiliates, accounting for more than 60 % of foreign‑created jobs in the past year, although only 31.9 % of the 822,000 regularised migrants were actually enrolled in the system by the end of July.
