Seville and Galicia Undertake Major Restorations of Historic Virgin Icons

The sanctuary of the Virgen de la Peregrina in Galicia has completed the removal of the metal scaffolding that covered its façade for about a year. The final technical acceptance of the work is scheduled for 10 a.m. on 4 August, following an investment of more than €300,000 by the Xunta de Galicia. The project, overseen by the cofradía’s president Juan Carlos Aguilar Argenti, addressed the complex baroque geometry of the building, requiring double‑level scaffolding and careful cleaning of granite, mortar repair and stone restoration.

In Seville, the Hermandad de Nuestra Señora de la Salud has signed a contract to restore the red “mantle of the stars” that dresses the statue of the Virgen de la Salud. The work, spanning several months, will be carried out by the Jesús Rosa embroidery workshop with funding from the Real Maestranza de Caballería and donations from members. The 18th‑century textile, noted for its intricate gold‑threaded six‑pointed stars, is in poor condition and will not be used in processions, but the restoration aims to preserve this exemplar of Sevillian needlework for future internal liturgical use.
