Spain sees launch of Santana Cajal off‑road 4x4 and VW ID. Cross electric SUV

Santana Motors announced the Cajal, a diesel‑powered 4x4 off‑road vehicle derived from the BAIC BJ40. The model will be assembled in Linares using an SKD process and will be marketed under the slogan “4x4 100x100 Spanish Brand”. It targets a niche segment with a 163 hp engine, five‑door body, and dimensions of 4.79 m × 1.94 m × 1.90 m.

Volkswagen introduced the ID. Cross, an electric compact SUV built at its Landaben plant in Navarre. Priced from €25,600, the vehicle uses the MEB+ platform, measures 4.15 m × 1.79 m × 1.58 m, and offers a 475‑liter trunk plus a 25‑liter front compartment. It features a digital 10.25‑inch instrument panel, a 12.9‑inch infotainment screen, and aims to broaden electric mobility in the Spanish market.

Both launches are part of a broader effort by Spanish manufacturers to diversify offerings, with Santana emphasizing a locally branded off‑road niche and Volkswagen expanding its affordable electric SUV lineup.
