Spain sees shift toward preventative security and cybersecurity awareness

In Spain, security concerns are evolving from reactive measures to proactive prevention. While official data from the Ministry of the Interior shows low conventional crime rates and 74.5% of citizens feel the country is safe, 60.4% believe security has decreased compared to two years ago. This shift is driving increased investment in home and business protection, with 86.7% of surveyed individuals now utilizing security measures. There is a notable rise in technological solutions, such as connected alarms and smart locks.

Simultaneously, cybersecurity has become a critical priority. Experts warn of increasing sophistication in digital threats, including phishing, vishing, and smishing. Many Spanish organizations currently lack adequate infrastructure, such as Security Operations Centers (SOC) or incident response plans, making them vulnerable to attacks. The National Cybersecurity Institute (Incibe) has reported a significant increase in inquiries via its 017 helpline. Experts recommend maintaining updated devices, avoiding public Wi-Fi, and exercising caution with unknown USB ports and Bluetooth connections to mitigate risks.
