Bizkaia tenders hybrid solar, wind, and storage project

The Diputación Foral de Bizkaia has launched a tender for a renewable energy project at the Urioste fire station. The project, with a budget of 302,066 euros, aims to increase self-consumption by hybridizing photovoltaic, wind, and storage technologies. The plan includes adding 61 kWp of solar capacity and a 3 kW wind system, alongside a 240 kWh storage system to manage critical consumption and backup power.

In the broader Spanish energy market, companies are increasingly integrating Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with solar plants. A notable partnership between EDP and Zelestra has resulted in multiple Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for hybrid projects. These include plants in Sevilla and Castilla-La Mancha, providing up to four hours of autonomy to better manage the daily cycle of electricity prices and demand.
