Spain Social Security birth benefit spending reaches 2,723 million euros

Spain's Social Security system allocated 2,723 million euros during the first half of 2026 to benefits related to birth, childcare, pregnancy risks, and breastfeeding. This figure represents a 21.9% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

The rise in spending reflects recent changes in family protection and work-life balance policies. Monthly disbursements reached 470.3 million euros in June, a 27.2% year-on-year increase. Other high-expenditure months included May (482.1 million euros) and April (433.6 million euros).

Due to this rapid growth, approximately 74% of the total annual budget of 3,677.76 million euros has already been utilized within the first six months of the year.
