Spain studies extending AP-4 highway third lane to Cádiz

The Spanish central government is examining whether the third lane planned for the AP-4 motorway, which links Seville and Cádiz, could be extended along the entire route to reach the city of Cádiz.

A provisional technical approval and environmental impact study have been issued for a 34.4‑kilometre segment between the Dos Hermanas junction and the Las Cabezas de San Juan–A-471 link, the former toll point. The project, priced at €246.8 million, is now in a public information phase during which administrations, associations and private parties may submit comments.

Regional authorities in Andalusia and business groups have complained that traffic congestion has worsened since the toll was removed in 2020, especially for heavy trucks, and they are urging a full‑length third lane. Deputy Government Representative in Andalusia Pedro Fernández said all submitted allegations will be examined technically before a final decision.
