Spain TDT reorganization to introduce UHD broadcasts
A major reorganization of Spain’s Digital Terrestrial Television (TDT) is scheduled for November 5, introducing Ultra High Definition (UHD) broadcasts and the DVB-T2 standard. This transition involves redistributing existing HD channels to free up capacity for new UHD signals within the RGE2 multiplex.
RTVE is expected to launch its second UHD channel, La 2, as part of this rollout. RTVE will hold half of the capacity in the RGE2 multiplex, while Atresmedia and Mediaset will each hold a quarter. Additionally, RTVE is working toward an agreement with the Generalitat to allow La 2 Cat to broadcast in HD within the Catalan regional multiplex.
The reorganization may affect channel availability for viewers. While most channels will continue to be available in HD, certain channels including Clan, DKISS, Atreseries, Be Mad, and Boing may change positions or require a receiver rescan to remain visible. Viewers will likely need to rescan their televisions to ensure correct reception of the new broadcasts.
