Spain tightens rules on electric scooters and garage parking

Spanish authorities are enforcing a €100 fine for riding electric scooters with a passenger, a practice prohibited under national traffic regulations regardless of the rider’s age or the vehicle’s power. The rule aims to reduce accident risk, and violations can be compounded if other infractions such as speeding, lack of insurance, or missing registration are detected.

Under the Spanish Horizontal Property Law, owners may park both a car and a motorcycle in a single garage space provided the vehicles do not cross the designated lines. The law also permits the use of the space for other personal mobility devices, such as electric scooters, as long as activities do not become hazardous or obstruct communal areas. Community statutes can impose stricter limits, and insurance considerations may affect the number of vehicles stored.
