Spain to launch new renewable generation contests after summer
The Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition announced that new renewable generation contests will be launched in September or October, marking the first such call since 2022. Secretary of State for Energy Joan Groizard emphasized the aim to unlock existing grid connections for new wind, solar and pumped‑hydro storage projects, rather than expanding overall demand. Speculation arose about a possible offshore wind auction, following comments by Vice‑President and Minister Sara Aagesen that an offshore wind tender could be held before year‑end.
The government’s strategy seeks to increase renewable capacity, particularly on‑shore wind and storage, while addressing market conditions that have hampered solar development.
