Spain to launch UHD terrestrial TV broadcasts on 5 November

Spain’s Ministry for Digital Transformation has set 5 November as the start date for ultra‑high‑definition (UHD) terrestrial digital television (TDT) broadcasts. The rollout will use the DVB‑T2 standard, matching most EU countries, and will allow primary channels to transmit both HD and UHD signals.

A public hearing confirmed the plan, which also includes the launch of a new national TDT channel whose licence was awarded to Servicios Integrados Entretenimiento Televisivo SL on 26 May. Viewers must retune their televisions at 08:00 on 5 November to receive the new UHD channels and the re‑organized channel lineup. Certain channels (e.g., Clan, DKISS, A3Series, BeMad, Boing) will require mandatory retuning, while the majority will remain viewable in HD for those without UHD‑capable sets. The new channel may begin on the same day or be delayed until 27 November to allow final adjustments.
