Ceuta authorities evacuate thousands of migrants from Playa del Trampolín FAST-MOVING
Spanish authorities have launched a major operation to evacuate thousands of migrants from the Playa del Trampolín beach in Ceuta. The settlement, which had grown significantly following a mass arrival of migrants in late July, was cleared by the National Police and Guardia Civil to address humanitarian and sanitary concerns.
During the operation, approximately 1,700 migrants were transferred to temporary reception centers. The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration has activated 1,800 spots in Loma Margarita and El Embolsamiento, with plans to expand capacity to 4,000 as more facilities are prepared. A priority plan is also underway to relocate 500 vulnerable minors to mainland Spain.
The evacuation faced complications when roughly 500 migrants returned to the beach shortly after the initial clearing to retrieve belongings, forcing a temporary suspension of cleaning operations. Authorities estimate the total number of migrants in the area has fluctuated between 3,500 and 5,000.
Parallel to the humanitarian crisis, police have dismantled two criminal networks involved in human smuggling, arresting five individuals. These networks were reportedly charging migrants up to 9,000 euros for clandestine crossings from Ceuta to the Spanish mainland.
