Transport sector faces rising costs as diesel prices surge

The transport sector in Spain is facing significant economic pressure due to a 40.7% increase in diesel prices since January. Fenadismer has warned that transport companies must immediately apply fuel indexation clauses to their tariffs to avoid operating at a loss. This rise in logistics costs is expected to impact consumer prices, including the cost of basic groceries.

In response to rising costs, Spanish Minister of Transport Óscar Puente announced that 90% of the 235,000 applications for the 20-cent per liter fuel aid have been approved. The government is also implementing progressive aid measures for the coming months to mitigate the impact of global energy volatility.

Separately, in Romania, the Ministry of Finance has adjusted state aid schemes for transport operators. The new legislation aligns diesel fuel support with temporary excise duty reductions, ensuring that operators can benefit from both mechanisms while remaining compliant with European Union taxation directives.
