Spain urges EU to accelerate Mauritania fishing pact renewal
Spain has called on the European Commission to accelerate negotiations for the renewal of a fishing agreement with Mauritania. The current protocol is set to expire on November 15, raising concerns that European and specifically Spanish fishing fleets could be excluded from these waters.
Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, stated that the matter is a priority due to the importance of the resources and the mutual interests between the EU and Mauritania. He noted that the agreement supports sustainable fishing and provides financial assistance to the beneficiary nation. Planas indicated that several other EU member states, including Baltic countries, also share an interest in concluding the protocol.
