Mediterranean region faces severe weather warnings due to DANA

Meteorological agencies have issued warnings for a significant weather shift across the Mediterranean region, driven by the arrival of a DANA (isolated depression at high levels). This phenomenon is expected to bring intense and persistent rainfall starting Saturday, October 17, with the most significant impact predicted for coastal and pre-coastal areas.

In the Valencian Community, models suggest extreme precipitation levels, with some estimates predicting over 200 liters per square meter, and specific models for the Valencia metropolitan area suggesting accumulations could exceed 500 liters over a nine-day period. The provinces of Valencia and Alicante are identified as high-risk zones.

In Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, authorities warn of a sharp drop in temperatures alongside heavy rain. Emergency services have advised residents to avoid flood-prone areas, refrain from parking in susceptible locations, and exercise extreme caution on roads. While some areas may experience a brief period of unseasonably high temperatures due to an anticyclonic ridge earlier in the week, the incoming DANA is expected to bring widespread instability and potential flooding.
