Spain wins FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup on penalties
Spain won its second FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup title in Poland after defeating defending champions North Korea in a penalty shootout. The final, held in Lodz, ended 0-0 after 120 minutes of play.
Spanish goalkeeper Laia López was the decisive figure, saving two penalties from Choe Yon-A and Pak Il-Sim. Spain converted all four of its attempts, with successful kicks from Marisa García, Celia Segura, Carla Julia, and Daniela Agote. North Korea made history by becoming the first team to complete a U-20 Women's World Cup without conceding a single goal during regulation time, despite finishing as runners-up.
The victory marks a significant achievement for the Spanish squad led by David Aznar, providing redemption for the team's previous penalty shootout loss to North Korea in the 2024 U-17 final. Individual honors included the Golden Glove for Laia López and the Bronze Ball for Pau Comendador.
