Spain's 2027 State Budget Seen as Trust Vote for Sánchez, Could Trigger Censure Motion

Finance Minister Arcadi España announced that the 2027 State Budget will contain "the biggest social spending in our history," prioritising housing access, pension purchasing power, the energy transition and a reinforced welfare state. He said the government has begun an "intense dialogue" with all parliamentary groups to secure the budget’s passage.

Coalition Canaria deputy Cristina Valido warned that the budget will become a "question of confidence" for Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. She argued that if the budget fails to be approved and Sánchez does not call early elections, it could become "the last straw" that prompts the opposition People's Party to file a motion of censure.

Both officials emphasised the need for cross‑party agreement, with the minister reaching out to all groups and Valido indicating that the Canary coalition would negotiate on the budget terms but may support a censure motion if negotiations stall.
