Spain's Adif launches bridge project over Jarama and expands rail fencing in Andalusia
Spain's rail infrastructure manager Adif has announced two major contracts to improve its network. A €1.55 million tender covers the environmental assessment and design of a new parallel bridge over the Jarama River at the municipal limits of Aranjuez (Madrid) and Seseña (Toledo). The bridge will replace the existing structure on kilometre 45/800 of the C‑3 Cercanías Madrid line, enhancing reliability for both passenger and freight services to Andalusia and the Levant. The contract runs for 36 months, with 24 months for project design and a further 12 months for supporting studies during construction.
In a separate initiative, Adif has issued a €3.3 million tender to install more than 30 km of fencing along conventional rail lines in Andalusia, spanning the provinces of Cádiz, Sevilla, Córdoba and Málaga. The work targets sections near Córdoba, Peñaflor, Ronda, Cañete La Real, Jimena de la Frontera, Castellar de la Frontera, San Roque and Algeciras. The fencing aims to protect the track from urban encroachment, deter unauthorized access, and improve safety for residents and railway operations. The project may receive co‑financing from the European Regional Development Fund.
