Spain's Airef issues public warning to Parla municipality over financial opacity

The Independent Fiscal Responsibility Authority (Airef) has placed a public warning on the Parla City Council in the Madrid community after the municipality failed to supply requested financial data. The council, led by socialist mayor Ramón Jurado, ignored multiple formal requests for budget and debt information, prompting Airef to publish an alert on its website, noting that Parla's debt would take 417 years to clear at current fiscal rates.

Separately, Spain's central government has advanced a law to partially cancel debts owed by autonomous regions under the regional liquidity fund (FLA). The agreement, negotiated by the Treasury and the ERC party, would see the state assume €17.1 billion of regional debt, with larger condensations for Andalusia and the Valencian Community. The PP and Vox have opposed the measure, arguing it benefits regions governed by their rivals, despite the law's broader applicability.
