Spain's August 2026 total solar eclipse sparks tours and viewing sites

A total solar eclipse will occur on 12 August 2026, crossing the northern half of Spain from Galicia to the Balearic Islands. It will be the first total eclipse visible from the Iberian Peninsula in more than a century and, unusually, will happen at sunset, placing the Sun low on the western horizon.

Organisers in Titaguas, Valencia, are offering a special astronomy experience that combines the eclipse with the Perseids meteor shower, telescope viewing, a 3‑D planetarium show and an outdoor dinner of local produce. Tickets cost €100 for adults (€60 for children under 9) and include protective glasses and optional accommodation.

A separate guide highlights ten natural sanctuaries across Spain—such as Picos de Europa, Costa da Morte, Sierra de la Culebra and the Bardenas Reales—chosen for altitude, clear western horizons and low light pollution to optimise the viewing of the eclipse. These sites are recommended for hikers, photographers and nature‑lovers seeking an immersive, low‑crowd experience.
