Spain's 'Caso Koldo' corruption probe widens with new testimonies
Civil guard commander Rubén Villalba testified before the Audiencia Nacional that PSOE operative Leire Díez offered him a role advising Guardia Civil director Mercedes González in exchange for damaging information about the central operative unit (UCO). Villalba, already under investigation in the "Caso Koldo" for alleged criminal organization, money laundering, bribery and influence peddling, confirmed the offer and described contacts with Díez in March 2025.
In a separate hearing, a sub‑teniente of the Civil Guard highlighted the involvement of commissionaire Víctor de Aldama, who reportedly had permanent access to the Ministry of Transport and ties to former transport minister José Luis Ábalos. The testimony linked Aldama to the company Soluciones de Gestión, implicated in a mask‑procurement scandal, and suggested connections to the Cueto group. The judge has scheduled further appearances of Ábalos' former partner, Koldo García's brother and a former ADIF executive for additional questioning.
Both testimonies are part of the ongoing anti‑corruption investigation known as "Caso Koldo," which examines alleged collusion between politicians, business figures and public officials in Spain.
