Spain to publish public list of gas stations with unjustified price hikes

The Spanish government has reinforced fuel market oversight with Real Decreto‑ley 7/2026. Under the new rules, the CNMC must monitor wholesale margins of all service stations, publish a public list of those showing anomalous price increases, and require stations to offer free, accessible complaint channels. The aim is to prevent state subsidies from financing excessive profits and to increase price transparency for consumers.

Current data show noticeable regional differences in fuel prices. The Ministry’s Geoportal reports average prices of €1.54 per litre for gasoline 95, €1.73 for gasoline 98 and €1.55 for diesel. Several low‑cost stations are highlighted as the cheapest in Spain, including Nueva Calonge (Sevilla) at €1.159 €/l for gasoline 95, Cooperativa Linyola (Lleida) at €1.246 €/l, and Alcampo stations in Catalonia and Valencia. Consumers are advised to use online tools such as the Geoportal or GasoilMiCarburante.com to locate the most affordable pumps and to report suspected overcharging through the new CNMC platform.
