Spain's Health Ministry allocates 228 specialist training positions

The Spanish Ministry of Health has completed an extraordinary allocation process for specialised medical and nursing training places linked to the 2025/2026 call. Of the 441 vacant slots that remained after the regular allocation – due to resignations or non‑entry of selected candidates – 228 were awarded, representing 51.7% of the total.

After the procedure, 213 positions remain unfilled. The largest share of the vacancies is in Family and Community Medicine (120 spots), followed by specialties such as Preventive Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Geriatrics, Internal Medicine, Microbiology, Parasitology and Nephrology. One vacancy each remains in Emergency Medicine and Paediatric Surgery. In nursing, 52 places are still open, mainly in Geriatric, Family, and Mental Health nursing, as well as Occupational and Obstetric‑Gynaecological nursing.

The Ministry said it will continue to work with the autonomous communities to monitor the evolution of the unfilled places and the factors influencing candidates’ choices, allocation and effective incorporation, aiming to improve training planning and align slots with the needs of the National Health System.
