Spain's Health Ministry completes 2025‑26 specialist training slots, filling 441 MIR positions

The Spanish Ministry of Health announced the conclusion of the 2025‑26 specialised health training (FSE) process on Thursday, confirming the allocation of the final 441 vacant residency slots. Of these, 312 positions belong to medical specialties, with 240 dedicated to Family and Community Medicine. The remaining 72 slots are distributed across 28 other specialties, including Preventive Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Intensive Medicine, Nephrology and several others that received one or two places each.

Health Minister Mónica García praised the achievement, noting that “100 % of the places have been filled, a total of 12 366, exceeding previous editions.” She called for improved working conditions to retain residents after training, warning that many autonomous regions struggle to keep more than half of their newly qualified professionals. The ministry emphasized ongoing efforts to harmonise conditions and ensure equitable access to healthcare across Spain.
