Spain's Interior Minister Grande-Marlaska on Levante Almeriense wildfire response

Interior Minister Fernando Grande‑Marlaska addressed the deadly wildfire that broke out in the Levante Almeriense area near Turre, Andalusia. By the end of the day authorities had confirmed 12 fatalities, eight people hospitalized with severe burns, and 23 individuals still missing. The minister emphasized that safety instructions for residents are legally binding obligations.

He detailed the emergency deployment: 461 personnel from the Guardia Civil and Civil Protection units, three helicopters, two drones and 128 vehicles were mobilised. Four of the injured were taken to Hospital Virgen del Rocío in Seville. Identification of the victims is being coordinated by the Institute of Legal Medicine, the Data Integration Centre and the Judiciary, with three formal complaints submitted concerning the missing persons.

Grande‑Marlaska expressed condolences to the families, thanked the rescue teams for their work, and pledged continued joint efforts to locate the missing and support the affected communities.
