Spain's Cristina Narbona testimony delayed in the 'case Leire' probe

Judge Santiago Pedraz of the Audiencia Nacional has postponed the scheduled testimony of PSOE president Cristina Narbona in the investigation known as the “case Leire Díez”. The new date is set for 15 July, after Narbona informed the court of her mother’s recent death.

Narbona was called as a witness by the anti‑corruption prosecutor because a Guardia Civil report linked her to a WhatsApp exchange with Leire Díez on 24 April 2024. In the messages, Díez discussed “re‑directing attacks on the president”, “qualified help” and “wrapping the matter up like a sock”. Narbona replied that the information had already been conveyed to Santos Cerdán and denied receiving any instructions from Díez. She has expressed “full cooperation” with the investigation, and the PSOE has publicly backed her.

Pedraz also delayed the 29 July testimony of former Galicia official José Norberto Uzal and noted that other figures, including Diego Villafañe and Beatriz López, remain scheduled to appear. The probe examines alleged attempts to manipulate judicial cases affecting the government and the PSOE, implicating former party operatives and the ex‑militant Leire Díez.
