Spain's Ministry of Health announces medical training updates
The Spanish Council of Ministers has confirmed that it will not provide funding for the increase in first-year medical school places due to budgetary reasons. This decision impacts the University of Granada, which must now use its own resources to cover 277 new student enrollments for the current academic year. While the government intends to potentially resume this funding in the 2027-2028 academic year, it remains subject to budget availability.
Separately, the Ministry of Health has released the call for the 2027 Specialized Health Training (EIR, FIR, and PIR) examinations. A total of 12,850 positions have been offered across various disciplines, including 9,676 for Medicine (MIR), 2,341 for Nursing (EIR), 377 for Pharmacy (FIR), and 293 for Psychology (PIR). The examinations are scheduled for January 23, 2027.
