Spain readies for August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse with travel guides and observation events

On 12 August 2026 a total solar eclipse will cross northern Spain, the first total eclipse visible from the Iberian Peninsula since 1912. The path of totality will sweep from Galicia to the Balearic Islands, with the Sun low on the horizon at the moment of maximum coverage, making a clear western horizon essential for viewing.

Various locations have been highlighted for optimal observation. The desert of Los Monegros in Zaragoza offers an open, flat area with minimal obstructions, while municipalities such as Monteagudo de las Vicarías in Soria lie near the centre of the eclipse’s longest duration.
