Spain's Navantia completes first static dive of S‑82 Narciso Monturiol submarine

On 30 July, Navantia carried out the first static dive of the S‑82 “Narciso Monturiol”, the second vessel of the S‑80 submarine series, near the La Algameca Naval Base in Cartagena. The test verified hull behavior, ballast‑tank flooding and static stability ahead of submerged navigation trials.

The programme is proceeding on schedule, with diesel engines already installed on the third unit, S‑83 “Cosme García”. Navantia Chairman Ricardo Domínguez said the collaboration between the Ministry of Defence, the Spanish Navy and Navantia is enhancing Spain’s strategic submarine autonomy and industrial technology base.
