Collserola Park stays closed as African swine fever persists

Catalonia’s Agriculture Minister Óscar Ordeig said there is no timetable for reopening the Parc Natural de Collserola, which has been shut since a positive case of African swine fever was detected in November 2025. He warned that “the forest is very neglected” and that the lack of maintenance hampers tracing and eradication efforts. Ordeig added that only about half of the restricted zones are free of infected wild boar, while the remaining areas remain difficult to clear. The government is relying on scientific assessments rather than political pressure, stating “we cannot say when Collserola will open.” Restrictions are expected to continue throughout the summer, and a budget of €15 million has been allocated for forest protection measures and containment zones.

The minister called for patience from residents, businesses and park users, emphasizing that the timing of any reopening will be dictated by technical experts and epidemiological data.
