By late July the African swine fever (ASF) situation in Catalonia remains critical. Efficiency gains delivered an EBITDA of about €90 million, while €74.5 million invested in R&D and a new biomass plant now supply 79 % of steam and hot‑water needs, cutting natural‑gas use by 41 %. Austrian pork prices have plunged to €1.44 kg by mid‑July, generating weekly losses of roughly €1.6 million. The decline is linked to Spain’s ASF outbreak and China’s halt on Spanish imports, compounded by a strong euro, U.S. tariff measures and adverse weather. In Germany, the Passau district’s large‑scale disaster‑protection drill tested quarantine and rapid‑identification procedures for a potential ASF case. The European Commission forecasts pig meat production to be essentially stable in 2026, with a modest 0.3 % year‑on‑year rise, but ASF‑related price drops and limited export routes are expected to cut pork exports by about 0.5 %. Possible Chinese anti‑dumping duties and rising competition from Brazil and the United States add further pressure. At the same time, EU cattle prices are slipping: young‑bull prices fell to €635.61 per 100 kg (‑0.9 %) and slaughter‑cow prices to €569.14 per 100 kg (‑1.8 %). German producers saw a 3.7 % decline, reflecting oversupply and seasonal lower demand.
