Spain's PP leader Miguel Tellado urges snap general election and resignations

Miguel Tellado, secretary‑general of Spain's Popular Party, called for the immediate calling of a general election, describing the current legislature as “finished.” During a visit to the medieval fair in Pontedeume, he said the government of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez faces “extreme gravity,” noting that there are more people under judicial investigation than the coalition’s deputies – 126 suspects versus 121 supporters in the Congress.

Tellado demanded the resignation of Mercedes González, the director‑general of the Civil Guard, and the president of the State Holdings Company (SEPI), citing their ongoing investigations as unacceptable. He also criticised Interior Minister Fernando Grande‑Marlaska for alleged false statements and urged Defence Minister Margarita Robles to use available mechanisms to enforce the dismissals. The PP leader framed the election call as the only solution to restore legitimacy and urged the President to yield to the citizens' will.
