Spain's People's Party grapples with Vox alliance as Sánchez pushes 2027 budget

The People's Party (PP) led by Alberto Feijóo is under pressure over possible concessions to the far‑right Vox party. Negotiations in regions such as Castilla y León, Aragón and Extremadura involve offering Vox three senior ministries and a vice‑presidency in exchange for its support on the national budget and an investiture pact, while the PP seeks to keep Vox out of the Andalusian regional government.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has activated the 2027 state budget in a fragmented Congress, emphasizing social spending on health, housing, education, digital inclusion and scholarships. The move is intended to force opposition parties, including the PP and Vox, to vote on the budget and demonstrate governmental stability.

Meanwhile, the PSOE faces a series of corruption investigations involving senior figures, adding to the political tension. The deadlock and the handling of the budget are shaping the outlook for upcoming regional elections and the overall stability of Spain's government.
