Spain's PSOE manager Ana Fuentes investigated in Leire Díez scandal

Spain's Central Operative Unit (UCO) has expanded its probe of the Leire Díez case to include PSOE manager Ana Fuentes and two party employees. Investigators have asked a judge to authorize the seizure, cloning and analysis of the three suspects' mobile phones, which were confiscated during a May raid on party offices, including the national headquarters in Ferraz.

The investigation alleges that Fuentes may have coordinated with Leire Díez to falsify two professional orders, acting under directives from former party secretary Santos Cerdán. The PSOE leadership, however, has rejected any move to remove Fuentes, arguing that she was only executing instructions and that the allegations remain unproven. The party maintains that the inquiry is in an early stage and stresses that Fuentes has performed her duties well.

The case continues to generate intense political controversy within Spain, putting additional pressure on the ruling Socialist Workers' Party as it awaits further judicial findings.
