Spain's Prime Minister Sánchez Considers Early Election as Opposition Feud Over Corruption Escalates

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said he would move to early elections if the national budget is not approved, stating that decisive decisions will be taken when necessary.

Meanwhile, PSOE minister Óscar López, who also serves as the party's secretary‑general in Madrid, launched a sharp attack on the centre‑right leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo, accusing him of entering national politics to shield Community of Madrid President Isabel Díaz Ayuso from corruption investigations. López presented a seven‑point roadmap for Madrid focused on renewable energy, circular economy, sustainable mobility and digital transformation.

Separately, a coalition of more than thirty Spanish civil‑society organisations sent a letter to EU leaders Ursula von der Leyen, Roberta Metsola and António Costa, denouncing what they described as a “dantesque spectacle” of democratic decline under Sánchez. The letter also warned about a forthcoming EU Court ruling on a proposed amnesty law that the groups say would amount to a self‑pardon for political allies.
