Spain's public works tenders rise 0.8% to over €13 bn in Jan‑May
Public works tendering in Spain increased by 0.8% between January and May, reaching €13.076 billion, according to the latest Seopan statistics. The rise was driven by a 7.5% increase in local authority spending (about €5.026 bn) and a 13.4% jump in central government contracts (about €4.621 bn). By contrast, autonomous regions saw an 18.6% year‑on‑year drop, falling to roughly €3.429 bn.
Among ministries, the Ministry of Transport and Mobility saw a modest 0.5% increase to €2.620 bn, while ADIF’s contracts fell 18.3% despite issuing new contracts worth over €1.6 bn. Aena’s tender volume surged 209.2% to €438.3 mn and port authorities grew 7.2% to €256.2 mn. The SEITT moved from zero to €44.9 mn. The Ministry of Ecological Transition’s contracts slipped 1.4% to €226.5 mn, whereas other ministries collectively rose 43.1% to €1.776 bn. The steepest regional declines were in the Valencian Community (‑62.6%), the Basque Country (‑62.1%) and Madrid (‑57.1%). The largest regional gains were recorded in Castilla‑La Mancha (+228.6%), La Rioja (+101.9%) and Galicia (+73.5%).
