Spain's Red Eléctrica urges large industry to cut power use amid heat wave

Red Eléctrica, Spain’s transmission system operator, issued an urgent request for large industrial consumers to reduce electricity usage during peak demand periods caused by a severe heat wave. The high temperatures have driven up household and commercial electricity consumption while a drop in wind generation has limited the grid’s renewable supply cushion. To avoid stressing the system, the operator asked factories and other high‑consumption plants to implement temporary, targeted reductions rather than a full shutdown, coordinating the measures with companies and government authorities. This request follows a series of similar alerts in recent weeks aimed at balancing supply and demand as renewable output fluctuates.
