Spain's Regional Health Services Add Specialist Posts and Summer Staff Reinforcements

The Navarre Health Service (Osasunbidea) has approved a competitive recruitment process for 54 permanent specialist physician positions across ten medical specialties. Applications will be accepted from 4 to 24 August 2026, with the selection exams scheduled for November 2026. The plan also creates temporary hiring lists and internal promotion pathways for candidates who do not secure a permanent post.

In Galicia, the Servizo Galego de Saúde (Sergas) has activated its summer temporary hiring pool, adding 4,018 professionals to cover shortages in primary care and hospital emergency departments. The rollout begins on 5 August and includes 941 family doctors, 804 family‑community nurses, 600 emergency physicians, plus midwives, health technicians, pediatric staff and other essential roles. The temporary contracts aim to reinforce the health system during the peak vacation period.

Both initiatives reflect regional efforts in Spain to strengthen public health staffing ahead of anticipated demand and to provide flexible workforce options.
