Spain's senior Guardia Civil officer Manuel Llamas indicted for alleged prevarication

Lieutenant General Manuel Llamas was appointed as director adjunto operativo (DAO) of the Guardia Civil in December 2023 by the interior minister. He serves just below the director general, Mercedes González.

Both Llamas and González have been charged by National Court judge Santiago Pedraz with alleged prevarication and obstruction of justice in the Leire Díez case. Llamas appeared before a Senate commission, testifying in civilian attire, amid criticism that his role reflects political interference in the security force.
