Spain's Sánchez urged to call elections amid wave of indictments

Miguel Tellado, secretary‑general of the Popular Party, told reporters that the Sánchez government faces a "national tragedy" because 126 people have been indicted, surpassing the 121 PSOE deputies in the Congress. He said the administration is "more indicted than it has deputies" and described the prime minister as leading a "criminal organisation" according to rulings from the Audiencia Nacional and the Supreme Court.

Tellado demanded Sánchez "assume the reality of the facts" and call a snap general election, calling the current legislature "finished". He also urged the resignation of several officials, including Civil Guard director‑general Mercedes González, interior minister Fernando Grande‑Marlaska, and SEPI president Belén Gualda, all of whom have been implicated in corruption probes.

The PP leader framed the situation as unprecedented and urged the government to step down to restore governance, while also noting the party's satisfaction with recent autonomous‑level agreements with Vox.
