Spain's Social Security disburses €14.4 bn in June pensions

In June, Spain's Social Security paid almost 10.5 million pension installments to about 9.5 million retirees, amounting to €14.4 billion for the ordinary payroll and an additional €14.0 billion for the extra payment, a new monthly record. The average pension across all categories rose 4.6% year‑on‑year to €1,371.4, while the average retirement pension reached €1,572.8, up 4.4%.

Jubilación (retirement) pensions accounted for roughly three‑quarters of the ordinary payroll (€10.56 bn). Payments also covered widows (€2.29 bn), permanent disability (€1.33 bn), orphans (€0.19 bn) and family benefits (€0.04 bn). Delayed retirements continued to grow, representing 12% of new retirements in the first five months of the year, up from 4.8% in 2019, pushing the average retirement age to 65.3 years.

The data also show sector‑specific averages: the General Regime retirement pension averaged €1,732.2, the self‑employed scheme €1,060.6, while coal‑mining pensions topped €3,002.6. Overall, the June disbursement reflects a 6.1% increase over June 2025 and underscores the scale of Spain’s pension system.
