Spain's summer reservoirs stay well stocked amid heat

Spain's main water basins are maintaining high storage levels despite the peak summer heat. In the Bierzo region, the Barcena reservoir is at 86.5% of its 341 hm³ capacity, while the Miño‑Sil basin holds 74.2% of its total capacity. These figures are well above the average for this time of year and ensure continued water supply for municipal use and hydro‑electric generation.

Further south, the Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar reports that its reservoirs collectively store 1,736 hm³, equal to 61.35% of capacity—four points higher than a year ago and markedly above the 47.36% recorded for July 2024. The system has a comfortable buffer to meet urban demands and irrigation needs even as temperatures remain elevated.
